I was never strapped but received the cane on both hands and bottom, both at school and at home, way back in the 50’s.

Both stung like fury but I think a hand caning was the worst, not least that you had a good view of the cane swishing down right in front of your eyes and you had to keep your hand in place and wait for that awful pain. The second stroke on the same hand was always particularly hard to endure.
